Float Cabin Living Featured at dornob.com

I was looking at my blog's statistics on Sitemeter and was surprised to see a huge influx of readers. After a little research I discovered a very nice article about our float cabin on a website called dornob.

dornob.com, primarily authored by Kurt Kohlstedt, is:

... where you will find out-of-the-ordinary designs that might not make it into your more traditional architectural, urban and industrial design publications – from over-the-top luxury to incredible design innovation.
I was very pleased with the coverage. I always enjoy sharing our story of float cabin living. From the pictures, content and quotes, it appears their source was Kent Griswold's Tiny House Blog. So, if you liked what you read at dornob, head on over to the Tiny House Blog for more.

Here are some quick links to post about float cabin living:
My husband Wayne has written two exciting books highlighting our off-the-grid lifestyle in Coastal BC. The first, Up the Lake, introduces you to cabin life. Farther Up the Lake includes more stories about our region and its opportunities. Both titles are available online through our website www.PowellRiverBooks.com. Thanks again to dornob.com and to you for stopping by. - Margy

Powell River Books Showcased on Tiny House Blog

Last month I introduced a great blog called The Tiny House Blog. The author is Kent Griswold, a fan of small structures.

The goal
of the tiny house blog is to discover the different options available for a person looking to down size into a tiny house or cabin.

After I posted a picture of our float cabin on the blog's forum, Kent ask me to write some feature articles. The first gave some basic information and pictures about our float cabin on Powell Lake in Coastal BC. The second was about some of the conveniences that make our cabin a comfortable home. So, head on over to the Tiny House Blog.

Since the blog's inception in May 2007, Kent has worked diligently towards his goal. Now, over a year later, there are lots of styles and information to choose from such as:

If you like to communicate with other people who like cabins and other small structures, stop by the Tiny House Forum. And thanks again Kent for all the great coverage for Powell River Books! -- Margy

Our Canada Coverage

For the last two months, our Powell Lake float home has been highlighted in an article in Our Canada magazine. Our Canada is a great magazine that is made up of articles by Canadians for Canadians. You can submit an article, and if it is are selected for publication, you receive a year's subscription as a thank you. Wayne submitted the article "Up the Lake" and it became the first article in a new series called "Our Dream Home." What an honour.

Two things really surprised us. First is how many people read the magazine. This was evident because of the increased traffic to our website and blog, and comments from friends and people we've met. The second is how many people took the time to send personal e-mail messages. Many of the messages congratulated us for finding our dream home and living out our dream. Many others had questions about our life and lifestyle. In Wayne's two books Up the Lake and Farther Up the Lake he has included many chapters about life in our float cabin on Powell Lake. I've also shared lots of information and tips here on my blog. But in honour of all those questions I am going to use the next few weeks to answer some of the more frequent ones. I hope you enjoy.

  • How did you find your dream home?
  • How is Bro (the wonder dog) doing?
  • How can you be satisfied with you new simplified lifestyle?
  • Don't you get cabin fever in such a small space?
  • Would you ever move permanently to Canada?
  • And more down to earth, how do you go to the bathroom?
Do you have any questions to add to the list? - Margy
