Do you think the Easter Bunny comes only to children and brings only large fuzzy bunnies, chocolate eggs and marshmallow peeps? Well guess what? The Easter Bunny comes to the animals at the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo as well. And he’s not just bringing candy and hard boiled eggs.

This year you may become an Easter Bunny helper and sponsor an Egg that you can give to one or more of your favorite animals. Because chocolate and jelly beans are not good for or accepted by all animals (tigers and lions, for instance), we are now creating specialty “eggs” for you to sponsor. Easter goodies may include melons for the bears, raisin bagels for Haboob, the camel (his favorite), paper mache eggs filled with exotic and delectable fruits for the macaque groups and last but not least, raw meat and frozen rodents for the tigers, lions and wolves tastefully encased in HUGE paper mache egg shells. Our staff of volunteers will lovingly hand craft each item to be placed in the appropriate enclosures in the name of their generous sponsor.

This day of sharing not only allows zoo guests to sponsor an egg for an appropriate donation dedicated to enhancing animal exhibits but also creates an exhilarating enrichment opportunity for the animal of their choice. This is your opportunity to enter the Tigers Lair or the Bears Den to personally deliver your Easter surprise. Appropriate to each animal, Easter “eggs” will be created by Zoo staff and volunteers and made ready for our donating sponsors. A schedule of events will accompany your invitation to play Easter Bunny to the Animals. Some animal sponsorships may be limited depending on exhibit size. We advise early reservations.

For folks who want to join the Hunt and follow along as we deliver the treats, the Schedule for Egg Deliveries are as follows. These animals will be in their secure night time areas until the Egg Hunts begin.
